As open interior spaces, courtyards create a vessel within the façades defining the space. Its limits are simultaneously framing it and turning it into a stage, as an object and backdrop of the overall spatial picture. Vice versa, its edges resemble a box seat from which to experience the contents staged and, at the same time, the border between the more intimate and the public space.
