Through the renovation of its headquarters, and the change in traffic patterns in old town Aarau, the engineering firm Rothpletz, Lienhard + Cie AG saw new potential for its site. The landscape design allows the building and its forecourt to have a strong presence within the cityscape.
A flowing arrangement of pillar-shaped quaking aspens delimits the porous boundary between public and private space. This transition allows entry to the forecourt from different directions, while remaining a clear threshold between street and forecourt. The landscape design adopts typologies and materials from environing urban and landscape areas. Overall, the landscape design is a response both to context and functional needs, and provides as well a backdrop to the stereometric sculpture by Peter Hächler.
