Redesign Hermann-Levi-Platz and open spaces Badisches Staatstheater Karlsruhe

Competition 2021 - Recognition

The architectural structure of the Badisches Staatstheater sets it apart from the surrounding buildings and thus eludes the urban order of Südstadt. As an equivalent to the premises of the new Staatstheater, the design creates a calm, barrier-free and multifunctional ensemble of open spaces through a clear spatial separation. Long benches on the north and south sides open up views across the square. The water cloud in front of the café and the large staircase invites visitors to linger. Mobile seating allows visitors to choose their own seats on or next to the stage. The design creates a sustainable place for an open and communicative society with a strong signal effect: Aperta spatium as an impulse generator for the next step in urban development.
