Re-opening of the National Gallery Sainsbury Wing, London

On 10th of May the new main entrance to the National Gallery’s in London opens to the public. Marking the museum’s bicentenary, the Sainsbury Wing has been refurbished and now serves as the main entrance to the museum. Vogt Landscape has designed the new welcoming entrance square through the removal of a former courtyard. This creates a better spatial dialogue with Trafalgar Square and it allows the museum to expand its activities and presence into the public realm, and for members of the public to engage more directly with the museum. The new entrance square incorporates two new terrazzo benches made of the reclaimed stone of the removed walls of the former courtyard.
