Lecture by Thomas Kissling on “Profiles of the Alps”

3.3.2024, 2-2:45 pm, ETH Zurich, HCI, Room G3

As part of a series, Thomas Kissling is giving a lecture titled “Profiles of the Alps”.

The Alpine region is confronted with rapid changes. The decline of the glaciers, the thawing of the permafrost and the shifting of vegetation boundary reflect the vulnerability of the mountain massif. It raises the question of how we want to interact with the Alps in the future: Are they primarily a source for the growing demand for electricity or a tourist destination? Which areas should be entirely protected? Landscape profiles provide valuable information for the reorganisation of the Alpine region.
