Bark Studies

Imprints of living tree species, these casts were made in order to curate a diverse to-scale textural library. A soft silicone material was spread onto the bark, dried, and peeled off. The negative mold was then cast, providing a 1:1 model of the unique haptic structure of the organism. In iterating through the unique, individual properties of landscape materials, a record of manipulation is formed that questions the relationship between nature and artificiality, our own faux bois.
